Season 35 Jeopardy! contestants - where they're from

The main table includes all players who made their first appearance on Jeopardy! in 2018-19. Thus, they don't take into account:

• Rick Terpstra (first appeared 2018-07-26; defending champion to open Season 35)
• Vincent Valenzuela (first appeared 2018-07-13; challenged again on 2018-09-25 after being disadvantaged by his original Final Jeopardy! clue)
• The Jeopardy! All-Star Games field (eighteen all-time greats who all first played prior to the current ToC cycle; the six-team tournament aired February 20 to March 5, 2019. A separate table denotes their representation.)

Here are some breakdowns of the data on where this season's contestants hailed from:

• Market representation: 101/256 (39.5%) overall; 93/210 (44.3%) for the United States; and 8/46 (17.4%) for Canada.
• State/provincial representation: 46 of 50 states and D.C. had at least one contestant (nobody from Hawaii, North Dakota, Rhode Island, or Vermont got the call to appear this season). With South Dakota fielding a player in 2018-19, all fifty states have been represented on stage since the start of Season 33. Six Canadian provinces were represented; in particular, early this season, Newfoundland and Labrador was represented by a player for the first time ever, so far as J! Archive's data goes back.
• Non-diverse games: Both challengers hailed from the same media market six times, twice as many as in Season 34: November 1 (Greenville, SC-Spartanburg, SC-Asheville, NC-Anderson, SC), November 27 (Seattle), March 28 (Detroit), April 1 (Washington, DC), May 21 (New York), and May 27 (San Francisco).
• Largest markets with no contestant appearing: Overall - San Antonio (no. 31); regular play only - Charlotte (no. 23).

This year, I didn't track markets in which all the newcomers were from different media markets; such tracking is slightly complicated by the fact that the show ran two of its tournaments from Wednesday to Tuesday this season.
