Season 34 Jeopardy! contestants - where they're from

The main tables track all players who made their first appearance on Jeopardy! in 2017-18. Thus, they exclude:

• Shadi Peterman, defending champion in the season premiere
• The Tournament of Champions field, which has its own table at the bottom
• The return of Rebecca Zoshak, who re-appeared on March 21 & 22, having been disadvantaged by a badly worded Final Jeopardy! clue in her first appearance on January 11
• The return of Ryan Fenster, who re-appeared from July 17-20, having originally appeared from January 29 - February 2 and been disadvantaged by a bad ruling in Double Jeopardy! in his fifth game

In the main table, the College Championship contestants are assigned to the markets of their hometowns, not the institutions they competed for. A separate table showing the breakdown by school appears at the bottom.

Some big-picture numbers about this season of Jeopardy! contestants:

• Market representation: 101/256 (39.5%) overall; 97/210 (46.2%) for the United States; and 4/46 (8.7%) for Canada.
• State/provincial representation: 45 of 50 states and D.C. had at least one contestant (Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Montana, and South Dakota were not seen). Ontario and British Columbia were the only two Canadian provinces represented.
• Non-diverse games: Both challengers hailed from the same media market on three occasions: November 20 (Boston), March 2 (New York), and March 8 (New York).
• Diverse weeks: There were eleven weeks of regular play where all ten challengers were from different markets: 4, 14, 19, 23, 27, 28, 34, 40, 41, 42, 43, 45.
• Largest markets with no contestant appearing: Overall - Miami-Fort Lauderdale (no. 16); regular play only - Tampa - St. Petersburg (no. 13).
